Y’all, I’m so stoked right now. I've been looking for a way to get my preexisting Schlage Encode WiFi locks into Home Assistant and saw this post saying that there is a custom integration! I ended up using this fork of the original project. It was pretty easy to get set up. I put some more info in my build post for anyone looking for more details, but TL;DR it works, and gives lock/unlock ...
I have the schlage connect (same thing as the encode but zwave instead of wifi). I have been very happy with it. I bought it because it was the only ANSI grade 1 smart lock that existed at the time, and at its core, it's a lock that I want to protect the house with.
Re-assemble Schlage encode plus and enjoy your matching Kwikset keys around your home. I recommend you watch the YouTube video link above to get visuals of someone doing the rekey conversion.
I recently bought a Schlage Encode Plus and it's my first foray into Apple's Home app and HomeKit, other than the Apple TV. Before I did those things, setup was a little tricky. Sadly, my experience with Schlage customer service was that they didn't know much about HomeKit. Be patient. I have to Schlage's, one is the encode plus, and both have worked very very well for years now. Totally worth the effort in my opinion.
The schlage is very snappy and def faster than using a key. Yale: not so much Folks have talked about the Yale battery life - it eats batteries, and if you turn off wifi you can't connect remotely. I can connect to my Schlage Z-Wave AND have the batteries last. The Yale also loses network connection constantly, each time notifying my on my phone.
I’m looking at the Schlage encode plus smart lock and Schlage electronic keypad. I mainly use my garage door so I’m thinking maybe I should have a smart lock on the garage door for easy access and to save money, the electronic keypad on the front door. Or splurge and get smart locks on both. The main reason for wanting to change my front door is to allow access when I’m not home. I ...
